hoppa leads the way with all-electric community bus service in Farnham
Waverley hoppa has achieved a major green milestone by making Farnham the first town to benefit from an all-electric community transport service.
Thanks to funding from Farnham Town Council and Surrey County Council, the charity has been able to purchase three electric buses to serve its door-to-door hoppa Shoppa service and two school runs.
The switch from diesel to electric is designed to reduce carbon emissions, promote sustainable living, and enhance the quality of life for the community.
Councillor Brodie Mauluka, Mayor of Farnham recently attended the official launch of the electric buses. He said: “I am very proud of the role the Town Council has played in enabling Farnham to become the first town in Waverley to be served by electric community transport. This initiative highlights our commitment towards achieving a cleaner, healthier future for Farnham.”
Richard Davies, General Manager at hoppa said: “Our new electric buses are not only environmentally friendly but are also designed to meet the specific needs of our residents. The buses are wheelchair accessible, offer a smooth, quiet ride and are equipped with the latest technology so we can maximise vehicle efficiency and lower our carbon footprint. As a team, we are excited to see the positive impact the all-electric service will have on the town.”
Anybody who has a transport need can use the hoppa service – it’s free for bus pass holders and a single ticket costs £2 for all other passengers The buses pick up passengers from their homes and take them to popular shopping destinations in Farnham. This makes it easier for residents to travel without having to rely on personal vehicles.
hoppa is ambitious to introduce an all-electric service to other towns in Waverley but progress is frustrated by the price of the new vehicles and the lack of a charging stations in more rural parts of the borough.
